HOTSTART Offers New Idle Reduction Systems
Spokane, Wash. – HOTSTART, an international engine heating technology company, recently added two new idle reduction systems to their heater offerings. The DLV Coolant/Lube Oil Heating System and the CLV Coolant Heating System are designed to heat vital engine fluids and maintain the temperature of the prime mover in cold weather. These electrically powered systems allow operators to shut down idling engines to reduce fuel consumption, oil consumption, emissions, noise and engine wear.
The DLV heats and circulates both coolant and lube oil throughout the engine system. The CLV singularly heats and circulates coolant throughout the entire engine. Both systems are designed for use on locomotive, marine, stationary land power and heavy duty equipment applications.
Cold temperatures force railroads to keep their locomotives constantly idling, resulting in harmful emissions and excessive consumption of fuel. It’s not uncommon for engines to idle for days or weeks at a time. HOTSTART’s idle reduction heating systems keep the entire locomotive’s water system warm during shutdowns, eliminating the need to idle. “Installing idle reduction systems on the prime mover not only reduces fuel consumption, but it also assists our customers in complying with local and national environmental regulations,” says Jason Barnes, Senior Market Manager for HOTSTART’s railroad division.
Both heating systems feature electromechanical relay controls as well as independent temperature controllers which indicate temperature and heater status via LED display. A new design feature of the DLV and CLV incorporates a larger control box with a removable lid for easier accessibility of control components. Keeping serviceability in mind, all wires are labeled with component and terminal location and standard replacement parts are available to reduce system downtime.
