HOTSTART 2017 Softball Charity Challenge Benefiting Cancer Can't
The HOTSTART Softball Charity Challenge, now in its 9th year, is a friendly intra-company charity event that raises thousands of dollars for a worthy local cause. The 2017 “Bringing the Heat” Softball Charity Challenge will be held August 19th, 2017 at 4pm at Orchard Park in Spokane Valley to benefit Cancer Can’t.
In nine years, the event has raised over $24,000 for local organizations. The charity of choice this year is Cancer Can’t, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help people fighting cancer in the Inland Northwest by improving their daily lives and circumstances. In July of 2014, Cancer Can't founder Jonathan Van Keulen was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma. He and his wife Becky decided together that they would fight back with everything they had. During their battle, they found so much pleasure in focusing their energy in doing good for others. They discovered that there was no non-profit in the Spokane area focusing strictly on adult oncology. So they started Cancer Can't from a hospital room. Jonathan has since passed away and Becky continues to work with Cancer Can't making sure Jonathan's vision of helping other patients come to fruition.
The charity challenge includes a softball game between two HOTSTART teams, a picnic for the attendees and raffle of donated prizes following the game.
